Introduction

”Good decisions come from experience, but experience comes from bad decisions”

Welcome to ”i-Wise”, a tool to help you reflect on the decisions you have to or want to make, and where you have to decide between YES or NO.

You will be asked to answer a few questions by choosing a number on a scale from 1 to 10:
• 1 means “absolutely NO” or a very low value
• 10 means “definitely YES” or a very high value.

Before we start, you should clearly have in mind a decision you need to make or one you are about to make.

Ready?
Now answer the questions and pay attention: you will have limited time only for the first one.
First question: instinctively, how much do you “feel like saying yes” to the decision?

6

Urgency

How inevitable is the decision?

Will you sooner or later have to decide anyway (high value) or can you do without (low value)?

6

Urgency

Is this a one-off, unique opportunity?

Would I benefit more by making this decision now (high value), or by deciding in the future (low value)?

6

Confidence

How stable is the environment?

You do not expect any significant changes or new obstacles to come up after the decision is made (high value) or you do (low value)

6

Confidence

Once I have made the decision, how well can I predict future scenarios?

is it possible for me to foresee probable developments, possible scenarios and/or consequences of meeting this challenge/ making this decision?

6

Confidence

What is the safety level?

If the decision does not work out, nothing serious is going to happen (high value) or it could have a negative impact (low value)

Feasibility

Your result shows that you lack the resources, the experience or the skills to make this decision.
If you want to make it anyway, the suggestion is to increase at least one of these 3 factors.

Your result shows that you have enough skills, resources or experience to make this decision.
If one of these factors is very low though, you should consider investing some time to raise its value.

Urgency

Apparently, this decision can wait.
It does not mean that you should not make it, but there is nothing wrong with waiting a bit.
Or maybe you are just unsure about the benefits you can derive.
The advice is to wait and do some more research

It seems that time is the key.
Is it because of a deadline that you cannot miss or is it because prospective benefits seem so great that they are pushing you to hurry?
Anyway, check the other factors and, if they are all positive, “hurry up”.

Confidence

It seems you are moving on unsafe ground.
You either cannot predict the consequences of your actions or the environment is unstable and you are not safe from the negative consequences of the decision.
Maybe it is worth waiting for a better moment. Evaluate the situation some more or “brace yourself”

Your result shows that the context, the consequences of your decision and your capacity to respond to unforeseen situations are under control.
Very good. Is one of these indicators particularly low? If you wish extra confidence try to invest the necessary time to raise its value

Final Feedback

It seems conditions are right to make the decision.
But something is holding you back emotionally. Is it fear of the unknown? Lack of will? Bad emotions?
The advice is to seek clarity within yourself, so to align emotions with reason.

You clearly fancy making this decision, you are highly motivated.
But your “fancy” does not correspond to the rational analysis of the decision you are facing.
Try to slow down and work on confidence, urgency and feasibility of the decision before throwing yourself headlong.

You definitely fancy making this decision, you are motivated.
But your “fancy” does not correspond to the rational analysis of the decision to malke.
Try fighting the urge to go ahead and work on urgency, feasibility and… of the decision before jumping ahead.

It seems both motivational and rational conditions to take the decisions are in place. Is there still something holding you back?
Maybe you want to reconsider a little bit more the level of Feasibility or Urgency, in order to make this decision unmistakable.

Final considerations

Obviously, i-Wise cannot aim at telling you what to do with certainty.
Its true value lies in using it to stop and think about the decisions you have to make by asking yourself some good questions.
And if somebody asks you for advice, try to use it yourself. Ask him the right questions to help him reflect.
It is the first step to becoming a personal coach.
